Dwight L. Johnson
As chief executive officer of Sturgeon Systems, Inc. since 1977, Johnson has worked as a consultant specializing in strategic planning, finance, and networking. He also works with Christian Catalysts, Inc., a ministry with a mission to further God's kingdom through fundraising, sponsorships and promotion of such events as Men With a Purpose organizations, annual conferences, dinner, receptions, and golf tournaments.
Previous to heading up his own company, Johnson worked as CEO of Sturgeon Electric Company, a Denver-based electrical contracting firm serving the six Rocky Mountain states. For the Cross of the Rockies, the largest lighted cross in the world, Johnson won a first place Applied Lighting International Award from the Illuminating Engineering Society.
It was while working at Sturgeon that Johnson discovered the need for business leaders to become transparent first to the gospel, then to their coworkers. He has now spent more than 20 years encouraging men to seek lives of significance through being transparent in their work, families, and faith. In his books The Transparent Leader I & II, Johnson has brought together 41 men at the tops of their fields who have found fulfillment in life by being open and vulnerable. In this collection of stories, the men offer concise, quick-to-read, life-changing thoughts that challenge common assumptions about how men should deal with emotions.
Active in the business and Christian community, Johnson is able to share his style of leadership-encompasing the whole person-on the many boards and professional organizations he works with including the University of Colorado; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Citizens for Community Values in San Diego; YMCA; Youth for Christ; Colorado Ski Country U.S.A.; Young President's Organization; National Jewish Hospital; Prison Fellowship of San Diego County; and Promise Keepers Men's Ministry of California.
Johnson was named Outstanding Young Man in the Metropolitan Denver Area; the outstanding Layman of the Year by the Metropolitan Denver YMCA; the Who's Who in Finance and Industry of Who's Who in America and the World; the Distinguished Business Alumnus, University of Colorado; and the Layman of the Year by the Southern California Prison Fellowship. He holds a B.S. degree from the University of Colorado with a double major in Business Administration and Electrical Engineering. He was a commissioned line officer in the U.S. Navy and has authored articles in seven national publications on applied lighting techniques.
Married for over 48 years, Johnson and his wife, Betsy, reside in San Diego, California. "God has blessed us with our three boys, 47, 44, and 30 years old, and five grandchildren. We are a family spanning three generations and we have benefited tremendously from the experience." Johnson contends. In his free time, he enjoys serving as master of ceremonies at a variety of events. He also enjoys golf, tennis, reading, snow skiing, hunting, horseback riding, and day hikes.
